The Bière a Lille (BAL) festival is a fine sampling of the French craft beer scene. This year the festival expanded to feature over 100 brewers from Lille, the rest of France and a hefty sampling from other countries.

Nicolas Lescieux of  l’Échappée Bière, one of the organisers of the festival, noted in an interview with the Beer Idiots, that the festival missed last year, and with the change in venue to the larger Lille Grand Palais, it was able to expand, a happy circumstance.

The two day festival part 18-19 September capped off a week of beer festivities at the city’s bars. This year Belgium had its own section, attended by brewers from La Source, Brussels Beer Project, Brasserie de la Senne, Brasserie de la Mule, Misery, Nectar Bohème, De Ranke, Caulier and Brasserie du Borinage.

In 2019 the festival was held in 9-10 November at Gare Saint-Sauveur.
